Sketching with SUTD students
Recently myself, TIA and 2 other USk-Singapore sketchers (Jenny & Marvin) were invited to teach a 10 week Urbansketching workshop with Singapore University of Design and Technology (SUTD). This university has a tie-up with MIT for its architecture and engineering programmes. First five sessions were spent in school learning the basics like lines and textures. The last four were practical on-location sketching sessions. The students were very enthusiastic and produced remarkable work within a short span of time. Above are 2 of my on-location demo pieces.

5 days getaway back to UBUD Bali
.
It was a wonderful getaway to Ubud and returning back to such tranquility is a welcome break from city maddness. As you can see from my sketches, my holiday revolved mainly around food. It was fun to hop from cafes to restaurants, trying different kind of local food and laze the day away . The locals are such wonderful cooks. The ingredients are always fresh and made with lots of love. You must try 'DIRTY DUCK Restaurant' for their awesome duck inspired dishes, try 'KAFE' for their coffee & dessert, 'BRIDGES restaurant' for their exquisite food & stunning surrounding and Cafe Wayan for authentic Balinese food.

7th Lunar Month Offering aka Hungry Ghost Festival
Taoist event celebrated in some Asian countries including Singapore. According to the taoists, gates of hell are opened during the 7th lunar and all spirits and ghosts are free to roam the earth. To appease these spirits and avoid harrassment, earthlings offer them food and drinks. There are concert performances and Chinese operas staged for the visiting ghosts.
I managed a quick sketch of the offering set up outside True Blue restaurant. They believe this offering will feed the spirits and bring good fortune too.

Peranakan Museum Facade
For the month of August, all museums in Singapore are free for citzens and permanent residents as part of Singapore's 47th independence celebration. So last thursday, I invited a few sketchers for a weekday morning sketchwalk to Armenian street. We met outside the Peranakan Museum and this was my 1st sketch of the day. Playing with my bamboo pen and noodler ink.

Exploring Dunlop Street @ Little India
This is my 1st sketch today at Little India. The heat and sun was way too much to handle at 10am. Hence I only had the energy to sketch. Trying a new bottle of waterproof indian ink by Dr.PH Martin. Jet black and draws very well.
This was my 2nd sketch at Dunlop street. I was very tempted to paint in the vermillion window on the right. It is never easy to know when to stop. Should I just leave it as a line sketch?

Sketching Georgetown, Penang
Recently about 70 Urbansketchers from Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan and Thailand were invited to a sketching event held inconjuction with Penang's Georgetown festival. It was two full day of sketching at several important UNESCO hertiage sites and sharing our sketches. Below are some of my sketches made during my short stay in Penang.
Shophouse at Love Lane.
Interesting corner building at Armenian street.
Captivated by this little blue house sandwiched between two other shophoues along Armenian street. This is my 2nd last sketch made in Penang.
Another shophouse at Armenian street.
