Intro to Urbansketching with Singapore International School (HongKong)
Last week I returned back to my school in Hong Kong to conduct a 2 day Introduction workshop to Urbansketching with 19 art elective students. Some of these students will be taking either the ICGSE or International Baccalaureate art exam next year. After sharing with them the aim and manifesto of USK, we went outdoors to draw and explore Hong Kong's waterfront and famous SOHO area. Drawing on location was a first for many students and everyone became very bold after a few quick rounds of quick thumbnail sketches in public. Some enjoyed the sketching so much that they didn't want to stop. Urbansketching is really a wonderful way to bring people together and see our cities anew.

Chinese new year market @ Chinatown
Many asians across the world will be celebrating the 1st day of Spring (23rd Jan) or Lunar new year in a few weeks time. We also welcome the year of the dragon according to the chinese zodiac. These sketches were done 2 weeks ago at Chinatown with a few Singapore urbansketchers and I was fascinated by the myriads of decorations being sold at the market. Pineapples made of paper are popular decorations as pineapples in mandarin sounds like prosperity. Let me take this opportunity to wish everyone a prosperous new year ahead too!
